The 24 Hour Plays

I’m so excited that I could direct one of the plays for The 24 Hour Plays at Andy’s Summer Playhouse in Wilton, NH! Directing kids ages 8-17 is always a blast, but asking them to receive a brand new script, memorize, costume, and tech the show in one day is WILD.

During introductions, a little less than 24 hours before the shows would be performed, a lot of the kids expressed interest in murder mysteries, detectives, a glowing thumb prop used in a production the previous summer, and The Godfather (don’t worry, that was one of the teenagers).

So, a few hours later, Murder! by Anya Richkind was delivered to us, and we got to work. The play is about the children of The Godfather, Cheaf and The Dogfather. Cheaf leads the mob now, and she has a thumb that knows when she’s in danger of being, well, murdered! Her brother, The Dogfather, has hired a hit-girl to take his sister down and reclaim what he believes is his rightful place in the mob. Chaos and silliness ensue in the 7-minute play, and all of our cheeks were sore by the end of the day.

It was amazing to spend a little less than 40 hours in New Hampshire. Thank you to my incredible collaborators and everyone at Andy’s and The 24 Hour Plays for making this fun weekend possible!
